Application for CIO declined

Start-up Charity

Christopher Binks Partner anyone can at Bridge to adventure Posted 9 months ago

Our application for CIO status has been denied
The objection seems to be the charities reliance on 3rd parties that are not charities to provide many of the services. On the ground provision for the beneficeries is already in place, and the charity intended to tackle the barriers to access (for disabled persons) to the outdoors rather than the actual services.
We (founders) also currently operate a disability adventure company - so I do know it was a fine line with the incidental benefits rule.
One thought is to give up the company and then integrate its operations into the charity (it has never made a profit) and actually provide all the services and support in-house
Can I just email this as a suggestion to the commission or do we have to resubmit a whole new application? Is it possible or of value to have these conversations with the commission?
I know the trustees were not keen on the idea of being an on-the-ground provider so this may be a non-starter.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
