79% of board members use AI regularly. Only 4.6% of boards have a full AI policy, and 29% have nothing in place (BoardPro 2026 Pulse survey) .
The biggest risk is confidentiality: only 37% of organisations have clear rules on what stays out of AI tools. The Charity Governance Code now treats a policy on technology and AI as a marker of good governance.
