Banks for charities that handle cash transactions

Finance

Jo Stone Treasurer - Trustee (Voluntary) at The Youth Counselling Project Posted 1 year ago

Just wondered if anyone has any comments about banking and the complete lack of service they give to customers.
Our small charity banks with Lloyds who have now closed their branch in our town.
We now deposit any cash/ cheque donations, collections from fundraising events and activities via the Post Office who now handle this for a few banks who have closed branches.
The Post Office will now only accept coins in full bags eg £20 £1 or £2 coins. They will not accept other amounts or mixed bags as "they do not have time to count coins".
They also told me that the banks may limit the amount of cash deposits in future.
This obviously poses problems for charities and any business that handles cash transactions.
How are we supposed to bank and also account for all the spare coins?
Does anyone have any suggestions.
Are there better banks?
Are there any campaigns already in motion regarding this issue?
