How best to convert existing Limited Co. into CIO?

Hi there,

We have been running as a Limited company for 3 years, but believe now would be a good time to carve out some of our activities into a charitable entity (Foundation CIO).

Which of the following is likely to require the least administrative burden and make best sense, please?:

Register the existing Limited company name (ABC Ltd) with the Charities Commission and operate that as a Charity going forward (ABC CIO). Set up a new Limited Company (LMN Ltd) to deliver the more commercial work we do.
Register the CIO under a brand new name (DEF CIO) to run alongside the existing company (ABC Ltd). Deliver the more commercial work through a Trading Name (LMN) under existing company (ABC Ltd).
