This question is from a member of our community that wishes to remain anonymous:
I am the CEO of a charity, and I'm currently facing an issue with the Chair of our organisation. Recently, they were unprofessional and rude to one of our staff members. As a temporary measure, I instructed the Chair to refrain from contacting this staff member directly via mobile and instead communicate through me, as the employee is still visibly upset.
However, the Chair responded by stating that they do not need to follow any instructions from me, asserting that they are in charge of the charity and can contact staff directly as they see fit, given their position as an employer.
I’m shocked by this response. It feels highly unprofessional and undermines my role as CEO. Could you offer guidance on how best to handle this situation? Also is the Chair correct in their position to ignore the measures I have put in place as manager to support my staff.
