Impossible to get a bank account!

Finance

Colin McCallum volunteer at Community London Network Posted 2 years ago

Hi, I am part of a small charity that was dissolved due to not filing accounts (long story), we managed to get an administrative restoration at Companies House and the Charity Commission reinstated us also so we back on track after several months with no bank account.
The funds in the bank at the time of the strike off were sent to the Treasury and the account closed down (we had been with the Co-Op for many years). We tried to re-open the account but have been told we have to reapply - the directors have changed etc. Our company secretary has done a lot of research and Starling bank was recommended so we applied there, took weeks, they kept asking for me things and now have been officially rejected with no reason given and cannot make another application for the same name! We have also applied to Co-Op but are now getting very worried at it seems impossible to open an account as we are being asked for accounts that we don't have and for crowdfunding links etc which we don't have! We have also looked at CAF but they require printing a large form and sending everything by post. The treasury has our funds and will not return to us until we have a bank account of the exact name as the our charity so using a personal account will not solve our problem.
Any advice out there? Thanks!
