Should charity staff join the Climate Strike on 20 September?

CharityConnect: Should charity staff join the Climate Strike on 20 September?
Is it acceptable for charity staff to strike with young people next Friday, 20 September?  Is anyone planning to attend?
https://www.campaigncc.org/climate_strike_20_september
And be great to know any organisations that are accepting (or even encouraging) staff who want to strike.

For environmental charities like Greenpeace it's the definitive "no brainer"; for other charities it is a matter of personal conviction (as long as service delivery is not adversely affected)

Hi Russell, I feel that it's up to the goals of the charity. If the charity supports climatic change they should join. Otherwise not
Best regards

We are a small charity and climate change is not part of of charitable activities, so we are not allowing staff to attend during their paid hours.
However we do have a member of staff who wishes to attend, so we are allowing her to take TOIL.

I previously worked for a youth led organisation in Australia. I've attached a link to their open letter and Facebook post calling for everyone to participate in the global climate strike...
This is our open letter to businesses and community organisations to support the School Strike 4 Climate on Friday, 20 September. Everyone must join the strike for our future. ✊✊✊. Download and share the letter here: https://www.yacvic.org.au/…/YACVic-Climate-Strike-Letter-to…

A resounding NO. Small charities have a primary responsibility to spend their time pursuing the interests of their beneficiaries and NOT having a pleasant day out with people dazzled by false hopes, expectations and realities of those keen to return the world to an 18th centrury pre-industrial idyll, which never existed anyway.

I think the climate strike, in general, is a great idea. However I think for many small charities like the one I work for, it wouldn't be at all possible to participate, our service simply wouldn't run for the day. I know that in the greater scheme of things having the office closed for one day to raise awareness of the climate emergency is a good thing, however I think often charities are responding to people's immediate needs and concerns, rather than a global one, so I imagine for many it would be quite difficult to participate.
