No, not that one.
Our PTA has it written into its constitution that the head teacher is also the president of the charity. But that's pretty much it. Nothing covering what the role entails. Oh, but they are, by default, a trustee.
The only beneficiary of the charity is the school. They ask, we give. Ok, sometimes we query how many or who pays the maintenance just to clarify, but we're happy to fund.
Now ignoring the clear conflict of interest of the left hand asking the right hand for money, having the HT at most meetings is invaluable since it gives insight and gets things done.
There is there now a notion that we should update our constitution. It's safe to assume the role of president will continue and be filled by the HT. So what role should the president have?
My thoughts are: no right to vote, first point of mediation in the event of an internal dispute, and not a trustee of the charity. Does that sound sensible? Are there other functions that should be codified?
