This question is from a member of our community that wishes to remain anonymous:
We are currently reviewing various stages of our volunteer journey and are stuck on some terminology surrounding 'interviews' and would love to know what terminology you use in your organisations please.

After receiving a volunteer's application we meet with them to determine their suitability for the role and give them a chance to find out more about it and ask any questions they may have. It is definitely a two-way process but it also involves the staff member asking set questions and making a note of the prospective volunteer's answers during the meeting so there are some formal parts to it as well. There are always two staff members in attendance at this meeting.

We want to make sure that volunteers feel comfortable being invited in for the meeting but we also want them to know that we are taking recruitment seriously and it is a big thing to volunteer for us. We also want all staff members to take this part of the recruitment process seriously and give it the importance it deserves.

Some of our team like the term 'informal interview' but others would like to use 'chat'. What do you use in your organisations please? Are there alternatives that work well for you that we could consider?

Thank you
