I have been the director of a CIC for the past year and am now thinking of handing over the organisation to someone with more time and expertise. 

The main issue we have is we have not secured funding for setting up paid roles, and also that I don't know how to go about setting up paid roles. All the volunteers in our team now, including myself, are uni students/fresh graduates and so we do not have the knowledge of how we can really scale the CIC.

I am now thinking of recruiting someone with more experience to be the Executive Director, but I foresee this might be difficult as the role will not be paid until funding is secured. Alternatively, I can try to find funding first, work out how to set up a paid role, then recruit someone. However, I don't know how complicated it is to set up paid roles and would like to seek support on it.

 

My main questions are:

- What next steps I should take - find funding first or recruit a volunteer Director first?

- How complicated is it to set up a paid role?
