We are a small charity which delivers services through wonderful volunteers who all have specialist professional skills. Some of these volunteers do the same role in their day job. One of these volunteers (who is self employed) also sits as a long standing trustee. Due to the nature of the service we need some trustees who understand detail of what is provided, and it is inevitable that some of those with the specialist the knowledge and skills will also work in the field. We also think it is good practice to have some of our volunteers on the board.

 We have a COI policy (in the process of being updated following the recent updating of CC29 Guidance) and they have declared their interest and confirmed that they have no interest in pursuing business in the same area as the charity. The trustees do not get involved in the task of seeking out new business.

What do other charities do? I would welcome thoughts about whether this sufficiently robust assurance?
