I do not work for a charity but I am trying to understand how a purely non-UK based association of members can attempt to be a charity for the purposes of the charities act 2011. The so-called trustees both live outside the UK and all of the association's members (as far as I am aware) also are non-UK resident. The scope of the work of the association is outside the UK. The association is claiming, outside the jurisdiction of England & Wales, to be governed by the charities' act and it's trustee and chair is also the association's CEO. I am also wondering whether this association is breaching the law of the country it is located in? Grateful for any advice! Thank you.
