Card Machines for Charities

Emily Hughes Trusts & Major Gifts Officer at Anti-Slavery International Posted 3 years ago

Hi everyone!
We are having a bit of a nightmare with our one and only card reader here at the office. It's really old, it doesn't do contactless and as we don't have our own wifi (we have to use the NHS guest wifi) we can't connect it to the internet to get updates/make payments apart from through the phone line. The connection signal strength through the phone line for the data the card machine needs to process isn't good enough and it means that we have been having to take the device home to connect to our personal wifi's to do updates. We're stuck in a long contract with the company we got the machine from and we feel it's just not doing us any good as an organisation.
I would love to have something small, portable and contactless for donors to be able to give on the ward, or at events, or even just over the phone/in the office without the drama of the machine potentially not connecting and their donations not being processed until we've updated it for the 10th time that month!
I've had a cursory glance online and the iZettle seems to be a popular choice. If you have experience with different devices or companies in your charities/organisations please let me know what you use, how expensive it is and how it works for you, it would be very helpful!
Thanks guys!
