Recently a funding proposal was circulated. It was to hire an ice cream van to hand out free treats to all of the kids at an end of term celebration.
As it was in the fallow time between meetings, we were asked to approve/vote by email. Due to "privacy" reasons, we don't have access to email addresses so no meaningful discussion can be held. It's simply a reply to the Chair.
We're a PTA so the occasional treat for the kids is a nice thing to do. Last year it was several boxes of ice lollies stored in the school's freezers until the day.
This year it was £1500 for an ice cream van. Personally, I only see the owner of the ice cream van as the beneficiary, not the children, and that was the feedback I sent.
The request was approved.
Was there a lack of governance? Should the Chair or Treasurer have pushed back on the request and questioned if it met our charitable aims before it reached the committee?
