Job seekers switching into the third sector can help the recruitment struggle

The charity sector is struggling to recruit and retain, (NCVO research) yet there are many people who have had a long career in the corporate world, would love to leave that behind them and build purpose over profit, but just can't land a charity job because they keep being asked for previous experience. Why is this?
I read a thread on LinkedIn that was very anti corporate people making the switch - "they think it's an easier job", "why switch now once they've made their pots of money?", "bunch of do-gooders"...
I think charities should be more open minded about transferable skills. People can learn about the charity world just as you learn about any new job.
I also think there are many myths to bust about working in a charity, for starters I have never worked so hard. If you want to coast, then it's not the place for you.
