Roles and Responsibilities of Trustees

I took over as Operations Manager for a charity last November and need to have a better understanding of what the role of the Trustees actually is so that I know what I should be doing vs what I should be pushing back to the Trustees. I have had some comments from some of my staff to say "that's not your job, that should be the trustees". Any guidance would be appreciated.
