CharityConnect: The "c" word
I want to start a conversation about the "c" word; campaign.

During my career, I have noticed that different organisations and teams use the word "campaign" to mean a whole host of things, from appeals to brand awareness to lobbying (and lots of other activities!). From my experience, this can cause confusion both internally and externally. I suppose as someone working in a Campaigns team that I am particularly sensitive to this and pay close attention to how the word is used. As such, I've had a lot of debates with colleagues and friends around this topic over the years.

That's where you all come in. I'm interested to throw this conversation wider and see what the rest of you think about this.

Here are some qusetions to get the conversation started...
  • What are your views and experiences about how the word "campaign" is used?
  • What does a "campaign" mean for you and your organisation?
  • Do we need different words to describe different activity?
  • How much do the words we use matter?

Looking forward to reading your comments!
