Trustee confusion, any advice?

We are looking to register with the Charity Commission. Our role is to educate specialist facial therapists around the world. I am currently Chair of the group but I also do paid education work for the group.
Can I continue to Chair the committee and NOT be a Trustee? I am aware that paying Trustees is a minefield to be avoided but I will be continuing to provide an educational role long term which I think will exclude me from being a Trustee?
Some advice would be so welcome, thank you :)
