Having spent the last ten years in the fashion industry (five of which were in wholesale and account management), I am looking for a new challenge and a career that is altogether more fulfilling and beneficial to society.
So the third sector seems like the ideal choice!
I decided to make the change after coming to the realisation that I have (as yet) undiagnosed ADHD (inattentive type), and therefore a career that aligns more closely with my personal values of fairness, honesty and integrity would likely be more rewarding, motivating and a better use of my skills.
With my background in sales, account management and business development, a good option seems to be fundraising, but I am also very creative, and I would love to be able to incorporate this aspect into my work.
I am currently volunteering at Impulse London, a gay men's mental health and wellbeing organisation that supports the LGBTQIA+ community. Through advocacy projects I have been involved in, I have a growing interest in the development of campaigns and so want to consider this as another potential charity career route, as I feel it could allow me to explore my creativity in a professional sense.
So that's where I am at the moment, on the cusp of something new and exciting, and looking for any advice on how best to explore working in the sector.
Also, if anyone here has ADHD, feel free to hit me up, as it would be good to hear how you are making a success of your career, given the challenges that we neuro-diverse people face.
