Advice on our charity structure

Hello,

I'm Derek and I'm the Administrator for a new Christian church on the South Coast. Our income (solely from donations) has now exceeded the £5k a year mark and we need to think about becoming a charity. So far so good, but there is a complication in our situation which is where I would like some advice.

Our church uses the facilities of a Community Centre in the same way as the table tennis or line dancing club i.e. we are seen as a club under the banner of the Community Association which itself is a charity (a CIO). This means that we benefit from the Associations policies, licences etc.

Is it possible for us to become a charity that itself sits under another charity? Someone (whose advice is not validated), said that "a CIO cannot sit under another CIO". If that is true, could we choose an unincorporated model such as a Charitable Trust instead and would that be okay?
